ETO/AVIT (Dual Role)
One person covering both electro-technical and AV/IT duties — standard on 60–90m yachts.
On mid-size yachts (roughly 60–90m), electro-technical and AV/IT responsibilities are usually combined into a single dual-role position, covering everything from navigation electronics to guest entertainment systems. Above roughly 90m, yachts typically split this into two separate roles — a sole ETO and a sole AV/IT Officer.
What the job actually involves
- Covering the full scope of both the ETO and AV/IT roles
- Prioritising workload across safety-critical systems and guest-facing entertainment
- Running planned maintenance schedules across all electronic systems
- Acting as the yacht's sole point of contact for anything electronic
Getting hired
- Broad electro-technical qualifications plus AV/IT experience
- An MCA ETO Certificate of Competence (or equivalent) is usually expected
- STCW Basic Safety Training and a valid ENG1
- Comfortable working solo without a second technical officer to share the load
Typical pay
Dual ETO/AVIT roles typically pay €5,500–€8,500 a month, reflecting the broader scope of the job.
