On larger yachts, the AV/IT side of the job is sometimes split out from general electro-technical duties into its own role — managing entertainment systems, guest Wi-Fi, cinema rooms, video conferencing and the yacht's IT infrastructure specifically.
What the job actually involves
Maintaining guest-facing AV systems — cinemas, TVs, sound systems, cabin entertainment
Managing IT infrastructure, networks and Wi-Fi coverage across the yacht
Supporting guest video calls, streaming and connectivity requests
Working with the ETO/engineering team on integrated systems
Troubleshooting under pressure when a system fails mid-charter
Getting hired
A background in AV integration, IT support or broadcast engineering
STCW Basic Safety Training and a valid ENG1
Strong customer service skills — this is a guest-facing technical role
Often a stepping stone into, or from, the ETO track on larger yachts
Typical pay
AV/IT Officers typically earn €4,000–€7,000 a month, similar to or slightly below a dedicated ETO.
